Want to know why I’ve been MIA?

Hey guys, I know it’s been a long time and I wanted to give an explanation. I’ve started a true crime podcast with one of my best friends! I know, what a big leap haha, but it’s something I’ve wanted to do for a long time. We’re already up to twelve episodes so feel free to binge! I will not be continuing with my blog on here but thank you for reading and commenting. If you miss me enough, please visit the Little Podcast of Horrors. We’re on SoundCloud, iTunes & Sticher!

Puppy Mania!

Murphy Brown (the dog) has been a grand addition to my life. While she can be a little crazy at times, my boyfriend and I can’t imagine our lives without her.

This post is about the multiple events and places I’ve been apart of since Murphy has come into our lives. I love to keep her active because that gives me some down time and it gives her some much needed exercise. I often take her to dog parks. While I do feel uneasy about taking her, since people have warned me against aggressive dogs and diseases. However, I try to be as cautious as possible. Murphy is up to date on all of her shots, if any dog seems hostile towards her, I immediately scoop her up and take her away from the situation.
Murphy loves to run and while I can watch her gleefully for a few minutes, I can become bored easily. Hence why I love Washington Park in Over the Rhine. I go to Cincinnati quite often since I live so close, but Washington Park is great for dog lovers who have owners who are also beer lovers. Yappy Hour, as shown above, is one of my favorite events downtown. At Yappy Hour, dogs are provided with treats and free food while their owners can enjoy a cocktail.I like taking her there, picking up a beer and then heading towards the dog park section. Personally, I haven’t had a problem with aggressive dogs, but Murphy tends to be an instigator so that doesn’t exactly help matters. I believe Yappy Hour occurs every Thursday night in the summer.

Another event I went to was Paws and Pints at Listermann Brewing Company (As seen above). This event was adorable. There were paw print cookies, free samples of dog food, party hats and lots of happy friendly dogs. This also gave this happy owner a chance to drink some great beer while socializing Murphy. The event was held to celebrate national dog day and it was definitely a hoot!

Also, here’s a random tidbit from me learning the hard way. It sounds silly but these dog wipes are amazing for getting out bathroom stains that your pet leaves. They’re cheap and effective and they’re great if your bringing your pup to a new place that involves carpeting!

Favorite dog parks in Cincinnati: A tie between Washington Park (But you have to pay for parking usually) or Otto Armleder Dog Park (Free parking and lots of room for dogs to play)

Favorite dog park in Northern Kentucky: Highland Hills Dog Park

The Top Ten Reasons You Might Be Obsessed With Cooking/Baking

I want all of these cookies from “Tangled”.

1) You spend way too much money at the grocery store. You keep telling yourself that this expensive item will enhance the recipe.

2) You know where everything in the baking aisle is.

3) People ask you where things are in the baking aisle because you appear confident in where things are and what product(s) to get.

4) You think it’s “cute” when someone doesn’t know what baking powder is.

5) You are constantly looking up different recipes.

6) You try a new recipe and feel like it’s not right so you add your own spin on it, because who really needs bok choy anyways?

7) Grocery store workers attempt to avoid you because you always ask them if they have new herbs like basil and thyme in.

8) You go to sleep looking at recipes which results in you becoming extremely hungry at highly inconvenient times.

9) When you try a new recipe, you tell yourself, you’re an adult and you can do this! However, you’re worried about your skills and you’re usually not 100% happy with a recipe if you had high hopes for it. In turn, if you had low expectations on a recipe, and it goes well, it’s not just a good day. It’s the best day! You feel like you’re in a Disney domestic fictional fairy tale!

10. You constantly think about owning your own bakery/cafe/restaurant but you don’t actually want to bake/cook that much you just want to make things for yourself, your friends and family with no time limit. You mean I get to bake/cook all day and its my job!?! However you start crying because you know you bake/cook to keep your sanity in check.

Regret, Recycle, Reuse, Rihanna

tumblr_o62y604yeq1qexd7wo1_500

There are lots of things in my life that I regret. The difference is, I regret that I did something, but I don’t regret that it happened. The outcome of a decision I made might be terrible, but I made it. It was meant to happen. At least that’s how I look at it. I have to remind myself of this theory everyday. Sure there are things that ARE in my realm of control (Which I love), but almost everything is out of my control. Things happen, because they were meant to happen. I can’t control everything.

The thing about anxiety is, you’re always wondering what shoe is going to drop next. You’re anxious about the fact you don’t know the future, and you’re not sure what’s on the horizon for you and the people you love. That however, is life. In life’s worst moments, I need to remind myself that this is in some sort of way out of my control. What’s the worst that will happen?

This is a short post, but I had a weird onslaught of dreams that involve people I haven’t talked to in years last night. When I woke up this morning I felt like I needed to write this theory down and emphasis its importance. Sometimes in life, you need to be selfish. It’s how you balance selfishness and selflessness that really matters. Don’t be a jerk, but also don’t deny yourself of happiness. Much easier said then done. I’m going to try and continue to toe the line. It’s just hard to see friends go sometimes, even if it for the best that they’re not in your life anymore.

Ten Things I Think About When I Wake Up

I don’t understand morning people. I have never been, nor will I ever be, a morning person. I love sleep, and morning rudely interrupts it…. everyday. I love my sleep so much, that my boyfriend even says I have a Jekyll and Hyde mentality (In a loving way). I’m a happy, loving person during the day, and a jerk at night (I  usually don’t even realize I’m being mean. It seems rational to me at the time). So…. that being said. Here are the ten things I think about when I wake up each morning!

signs-you-are-not-a-morning-person-saturday.gif

1. WHYYYYYYYY?!?!

2. SNOOOZEEE. Must hit snooozzze!

3. If I get up to go to the bathroom, will the dog wake up? The answer is always yes.

But how can you deny this face in the morning?

4. Is it a weekend or do I have to go to work? Either way, can I tell everyone I’m sick and go back to sleep?

5. Let me think about what I can wear today. That will save time and I can go back to sleep.

6.I have no idea what to wear, why can’t I remember what I have in my closet?

7. Coffee. NEEEDDDD COFFEE.

8. If I go back to sleep for a bit without setting an alarm, will I be late?

9. Why do I keep dreaming that I failed out of high school and college? I don’t work at the library anymore, so why do I keep dreaming I’m late for work?

10. I cannot wait to go to sleep tonight!

Hey guys! I don’t know if you noticed, but I’m a bit obsessed with doing top ten lists. Hope you liked this one!

The 10 Similarities Of Being A Parent Or A Puppy Parent

Hey everyone! I really wanted to write this entry but I swear I’ll write the NYC one soon. I have been commiserating with my sisters on the good, the bad and the ugly parts of having a “child”. Check out my post last week if you want a back story of how I got my puppy Murphy Brown and why. Please let me disclose that I think being an actual parent is MUCH harder then being a pet owner, but there are some hilarious similarities.

13698287_784010635067801_103317588569309339_o

1. You don’t sleep the same way you used to. As in, you don’t get much sleep at all. You’re either worried their uncomfortable, they have peed/pooped themselves so much that they woke up, they’re crying or they think 2 am is play time. I have a new routine where my dog does (FINALLY) sleep through the night, but she will get up at 5:45 am and want to play.

2. You worried about their level of comfort more than your own. Sometimes it’s because you want them to sleep and you don’t want ANYTHING interrupting their nap time, but most of the time you feel guilty for moving or breathing. Hence, you sleep and sit in awkward positions to appease your “child”.

3. You want your “child” to have friends but you’re also worried about their friends. Your internal thoughts run as so, “Aw, look they’re so cute when they’re playing. That doesn’t look like a very nice girl, she’s a lot taller, what if she bites her?! I will kick that girl’s butt if she even touches my baby!”

4. There’s an awful moment where they have had an accident (They’ve spilled, broke or chewed on something you didn’t want them to) but you’re in the middle of something, and you can’t decide what to do first.

5. Basically it’s a lot of prioritizing. Is work more important? Are friends more important? Is staying out another hour more important? Answer to all, nope.

6. When you are out and trying to enjoy yourself without your “child” you can’t help but worry about them and want to check in constantly. I’m guilty of this already.

7. You feel like you’re slowly turning into your parents. “We’ve talked about this! I told you not to do that!” You find yourself also using words you would never use in adult life, like using the word potty and calling yourself mommy or daddy.

8. If you have a significant other you will find yourself obsessed with asking them about your “child’s” bathroom habits. “Did she pee or poop? Did it look ok? Was there a lot of poop?” Sooooo much poop.

9. Instead of buying things for yourself you end up spoiling your “child” constantly. There’s always another toy that they have to have.

10. However, most importantly, you notice how full your life is with them in it. You feel fulfilled when they’re around. You’re happier and are constantly sad and happy by the fact that they grow so fast.

Red River Gorge in Stanton, Kentucky

Hey everyone! I had a weekend trip not too long ago to Red River Gorge, also known as The Gorge to most Kentuckians and Cincinnatians. Now, most who have heard of The Gorge, have unfortunately only heard about the accidents that happen there. Here’s the thing, if you go through safe trails, if you’re not drinking and if you’re not wandering around in the dark where you’ve camped by cliffs-you’re fine. If you’re not an expert climber, you might want to avoid difficult trails or doing anything tricky and have friends go with you, if you’re experienced I would still say HAVE A BUDDY to go with you. Accidents happen and while it can be dangerous if you’re cocky or lack caution, if you want to hike and see how beautiful nature can be, go to The Gorge. Enough of my ranting. Here’s some pictures!

Also, one of our friends created an IPA beer taste. Most, if not all, of the beers were local! We found out that it was hard to differentiate when all of the beers were IPA’s and we might switch it up on the type of beer next time but it was a lot of fun!

We had a blast, despite my asthma was giving me a hard time and I began to resemble a tomato more and more as the day went on, but it was amazing! We also went to breakfast at this adorable restaurant (See the pictures below) and had a feast of wonderful food. Overall it was an amazing weekend vacation to say the least!

A New Addition

Hey everyone! So I recently went on a trip to New York and I went hiking at the Gorge in Kentucky, but I am going to leave that for the next posts. This post, will be another short and sweet one. Very sweet. I have always wanted a puppy. A dog that was my very own, that I picked out and that I took care of. I tried this initially when I was in the seventh grade when my mom finally caved and allowed me to pick out a puppy. While I loved my Shih Tzu, Molly,  I shirked my puppy watching duties only after a month or two of having her. I let my mom take care of her and only took charge of playing with Molly or taking her on the occasional walk. When Molly passed I was heart broken. Ever since then, I have been wanting a dog that I could really say was MY dog.

When I moved out and bought my house I told myself, this was it. I could get a dog. I immediately realized that with bills, a full time job and a somewhat carefree lifestyle (Going out to bars on weekends then sleeping in late) that this wasn’t fair to a dog. It wasn’t until recently that I realized that those things (While they are fun) are not my priority anymore. I also am now able to bring a dog into work as well, so it was an added incentive.

I’m happy to report that my boyfriend and I have rescued a dog and named her, Murphy Brown. Yes, we do love the late 80’s/90’s. She is a Boxer/Terrier mix and she’s a handful, but we love her. We rescued her from Animal Friends Human Society a couple weeks ago, and we have been training and loving this pup ever since. I can not express how amazing rescuing a dog is. I know that rescuing an animal gets talked about a lot and how you’re saving an animal and such; but quite honestly it’s the smart option. Murphy came spayed, up to date on her shots, she’s microchipped, we got a free month of pet health insurance, a  bag of kibble and a vet check up. That’s smart people. Pets are RIDICULOUSLY expensive. This is the somewhat cheaper and smarter route. Plus their foster homes usually know of the pet’s demeanor and they can let you know what their personality is like from the get go. We love our puppy, despite the lack of sleep and the now somewhat hectic household. I wouldn’t have it any other way.

The Top Ten Things I Think About Before I Fall Asleep

Gotta love Fry from Futurama

I find myself constantly scaring myself before I go to sleep. It could be anything really. It could be about my job, my family, work, ghosts, etc. I tend to do this only when I’m on the brink of dreaming and sleeping as well.

1.One time I just HEARD about the plot of It Follows, and was terrified for two nights.

2. Did I lock my doors? I know I did. I’m almost positive I did, but I’m going to check them anyway.

3. Did I send that email? Did I remember to finish that proposal? This always happens. I still have nightmares about a previous job, high school and college. Luckily, no more I’m naked and I don’t know why because I’m in public dreams. Yayyyy!

4. How many hours sleep will I get if I start sleeping now? What about now? Now? This is why I have stopped having a visible alarm clock.

5. Do I have time to get good coffee in the morning? I always have elaborate plans at night….they usually don’t pan out.

6. I should work out in the morning. I need to work out more.

7. Do spiders really crawl into our mouths while we’re sleeping? I heard that’s a myth but… do they?

8. Every embarrassing or cringe worthy moment I’ve ever had just hit me. Crap.

9. Why am I not tired? Think of boring things. Think of boring things. Ooooh what if I got a puppy? That’d be awesome. Damn. That’s not boring.

10. I usually think of a really interesting story or song idea right as I’m about to sleep. Then I debate on writing it down but usually opt for I’ll remember in the morning, which  I never do. Sigh.

What do you think about before you go to sleep?

Welcome to Northside

Hey guys, this will be a short post but I thought I would show off one of my favorite places to go in Ohio.

A week or so ago one of my good friends had a birthday and she chose to celebrate at two bars called The Littlefield and the Arcade Legacy: Bar Edition. The Littlefield has a beautiful outdoor area. Despite the rain it was a wonderful day. They have an extensive bourbon collection and they make signature cocktails as well.

Legacy also offers an outdoor patio (Outdoor bar life can be hard to come by in Ohio and Kentucky). They also offered a variety of food options, mainly hot dogs. Legacy did remind me of the bar, 16 Bit Bar, which is located in Over the Rhine. However, Legacy really dedicated their bar leaning more towards a late 80’s/early 90’s feel. They even have old commercials playing continuously by the bar. It’s definitely a place to invoke some childhood nostalgia.

Tell me what bar or restaurant in Ohio I should check out next!
